Glossary:

  • LBSS: Lake Bonneville Symphonic Society, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization 

  • NUYS: Northern Utah Youth Symphony, or "Youth Symphony", our full orchestra including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. Rehearses Saturdays, 8:30 am - 11:00 am

  • NUYCO: Northern Utah Youth Chamber Orchestra, or "Chamber", our training orchestra for strings. Rehearses Saturdays, 9:30 am - 11:00 pm

  • NUYWE: Northern Utah Youth Wind Ensemble, our training group for winds, brass, and percussion. Rehearses Saturdays, 9:30 am - 10:30 pm

  • NUYPS: Northern Utah Youth Preparatory String Orchestra,  our youngest string group geared towards those students with limited orchestra experience. Rehearses Saturdays, 8:30 am - 9:30 am

August
  • Concerto Auditions, mid-August, where a soloist for each concert is chosen

  • Membership drive begins with late-August in-person auditions, with additional auditions ongoing by appointment or video submission (approximately 3 weeks until the first rehearsal). 

September
  • Weekly rehearsals, mid-September through late-April, at Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning

  • Parent Orientation Meeting, held after the 2nd rehearsal, sign up to volunteer, learn more about the groups, how you can support us, and the Lake Bonneville Symphonic Society's mission

  • Pay tuition for the year

Each season is essentially as follows:

- Weekly rehearsals September-April

- Overnight retreats (NUYS)

- Day Camps (NUYCO & NUYWE)

- Three Concerts

- Recital Night (Member audition)

- A performance at Abravanel Hall (NUYS)

October
  • NUYCO & NUYWE Retreat, usually the 2nd weekend, Camp UTABA, 24 hours of rehearsals, games, skits and awesomeness - attendance strongly advised! 

  • NUYS Retreat, usually the 4th weekend, Camp UTABA, 24 hours of rehearsals, games, skits and even more awesomeness - attendance, even in part, strongly advised! You'll miss 3 rehearsals if you don't participate! 

 
November
  • First concert, mid-November, most recently at Bear River High School

 
December
  • Christmas Party!

January
  • NUYS Recital Night, Brigham City Tabernacle,  mid-January

 
February
  • Second concert, late February, in Cache County, most recently at Ridgeline High School

  • NUYS performs in the Youth Symphony Festival at Abravanel Hall, a Monday in late February.

 
March
  • NUYCO Recital Night, Brigham City Tabernacle,  mid-March

 
April
  • Final concert, end of April most recently at Bear River High School

  • End-of-Season Celebration!
